Those people who are hot and then cold are usually afraid of real closeness, but they crave it at the same time. Look up avoidant attachment styles. They give you just enough encouragement to keep you hanging on, so they always have access to you. But by getting close and then pulling away, they stay in control of the relationship and how far it does or doesn't go. Give people chances, but don't end up settling for that push pull crap.
