Financial independence, your thoughts?

This is a good question, I don't know that it will get a lot of engagement, because I don't think a lot of people in the blind community want to honestly engage with the fact that many of them are not and will most likely never bee fully financially independent, and a lot of that is because of ongoing job access. Now, some of that is because of real barriers to employment, but I think some of that is people being comfortable without having any of the responsibilities and pressures that come from having a job, paying taxes, having strict demands on their time they'd rather be gaming or causing trouble online etc etc. But this isn't a blind community thing, I think its anywhere that gives free money to people and attach no real strings to it. I'm always impressed by people like you who come from countries where disabled people aren't supported and it really does take grit, guts and good connections to break the cycle of dependence that is fostered in certain cultures.☺️

ABLE accounts are tax‑advantaged savings accounts that let eligible blind individuals save up to $20,000/year (2026 limit) for disability‑related expenses without losing SSI, Medicaid, or other means‑tested benefits. https://www.ablenrc.org/what-is-able/what-are-able-accounts/
