Some of my best friends were made online. We met through gaming and now we are in the process to create our own products. So yes, I consider these guys my closest friends who I trust a lot. Obviously you would need to build a culture of common interests and shared experiences to make it work. But for blind people this is the best way to make connections. I can understand the safety point of view but its ultimately left upon the judgement of the person to decide what experiences they feel comfortable in and who they consider close vs who is just there to speak to you. We all know the high school friends who were there because they had no other option, and then when school ended, you drifted apart. I have done that myself to others and others have done that to me. And the underlining reason to that drift was because we never had a few common things strong enough to keep that bond of friendship going. It was just a dying fire so to speak. But that is not to say that sometimes peoples interests also change. So that also could be a root cause of why friends drift apart

For us as blind people, our larger pool of shared experiences which is one of the strongest reasons we bond as a community is also the reason why we tend to make friends online, because obviously your next door neighbor isn't going to be blind and understand you through that lens

I completely agree with you. I have had online friends who I have known since 2012 and I still keep in touch with them obviously with a few of them not as frequently because as we all know life happens but we still do keep in touch from time to time, but I do have close online friends that I have kept in touch with and because of joining this app last December, I’ve made four very good friends and I’m so thankful it exists i’m thankful that I finally took my friends advice and joined it because had I not done that I wouldn’t have met these wonderful people
