There are a couple of things I do before I go to sleep that seem to help me. Sometimes, I eat a banana about an hour before bed. Bananas have magnesium and potassium, which are important for your body, although I don't know that eating one actually helps you sleep. I just find it can be a nice little snack before bed. I also like to cool the room down. I sleep with the AC running and blowing right on my face. The cold air feels good, and the sound of it is soothing, too. A cooler room can help with sleep, and I think the steady noise helps me relax. Another thing is that I have to have something playing in the background, or I have a hard time falling asleep. It doesn't really matter what it is, as long as I have something on. I tend to put on shows I've watched plenty of times before, so I don't have to pay much attention to what's happening. Some of my favorites are Schitt's Creek, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Grey's Anatomy, along with its spinoff, Station 19. One other thing I've heard recommended for better sleep is trying to go to bed around the same time every night. I'm sure we all have our own little routines and things that help us settle down. These are just a few things that seem to work for me! One of my female friends takes a bath before bedtime, she says the bath salts and warm water help relax her after a long day of work.

Have you talked to a doctor? You may need to consider a sleep aid. They're not all addictive, and if used properly they can really help. I have been on a sleep aid for nearly 20 years because I developed insomnia that was affecting my entire day.

If you want to try something else first, have you tried mmelatonin? I did at first and it didn't work, but my pharmacist gave me a controled-release in a higher dose. You do need to cycle off it regularly because it is a hormone.

So it might just be that you need a higher dose, though I don’t know if that really comes in doses, maybe take some melatonin along with that cause that does aid with sleep, to be honest yes I’m a night owl, but I’m able to fall asleep within five minutes or less.
