I wanna buy one of those cars because I saw a blind guy was talking about it on TikTok, but I don’t trust a bicycle. Hell no

Bikes are fun to ride. I used to ride them when I was younger. I owned a blue bike me and my brother we will go bike riding in the neighborhood for fun.

I can see how it would be something to hope for, but I really don’t see it as a possibility in a practical way. First off, I agree with Doug on the technical limitations and challenges that I can’t really see a path to success. But couple that with no uniform standard for bicycle navigation, as far as where they are and aren’t allowed to go, where some cities have bike pass, while others are forced onto the street. Some people ride on sidewalks. There’s just no standardization for bicycles to train AI on. At least that’s the way I see it.

Thanks for your comments Doug, as always appreciated. I think a lot of the challenges that you’ve expressed are also there when it comes to autonomous Cars which seems to be taking off in the US and will be coming to London soon, in doing more research I found that there is actually an open source autonomous bike concept with .cad files for the internal software and hardware specifications so who knows, maybe we will get something like this soon. perhaps it’s just the optimist in me but I think it’s an area where we will see more funding for because a lot of people now are using electric bikes to navigate urban environments and it’s pretty inconvenient for the companies to have to collect them all and so perhaps they will invest in ways to get the bikes to pilot themselves back to a base location.

Your "automatic back to base" comment reminded me of my Mom's first experience with a Roomba vacuum robot. It worked fine, but her small dog, a Lhasa Apso, became fond of jumping up onto it and sitting there riding around the house while it wheeled around doing its thing. We both thought this quite comical and rather cute.
