This may come across as ablest or whatever, but I actually find this news to be rather unfortunate. In the US, they seem to routinely run their schools for the blind in this fashion, of mixing potentially fine individuals with no other conditions aside from blindness alongside students who have very obvious cognitive and intellectual delays. And I'm not sure it's fair to the teachers to try and juggle two curriculums because often times it seems that they find this horrible middle ground that Leaves individuals who graduate from those schools no more independent or capable of navigating the real world. I believe there are a higher rates of these individuals not even going to a four-year university or securing employment after and being relegated to living at home with caregivers. I actually felt that Individuals from the UK who happened to attend blind schools came across as being more experienced and ready to live independently then I would say individuals of the same age and experience in the US. I really hope we don't start to see a decline and educational expectations from UK blind students as a result of new classmates.
