These verses help me resolve many of these issues. “One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.” Romans 14:5-6 ESV

Hi Rachel., Thank you for that post. And truly, you are not the only one that is confused about how Christians act on this holiday. And I don’t celebrate Christmas as anything having to do with Christ really, I just think it’s a good time to have fun. Be happy and give gifts if that’s what you want to do. But not because it’s Christmas, just out of love. Which you can do anytime of the year. Anyway, thank you and God bless you.

If you want to dig deeper there is a book The Case for Christmas by Lee Strobel. It is one of his shorter books but from what I heard in an interview with him it should have some good evidence as well.

If I remember correctly Ramblio will open a link if I paste it. There is good evidence for the origin of Christmas not rooted in paganism. I choose to celebrate Christmas reflecting on the birth of Jesus and not consumerism. https://ca.thegospelcoalition.org/article/christmas-isnt-pagan/

I don't know man of God. I think it's just to have it. It's not impossible but I think it's kinda hard to live in the society and not participate in some things. Not impossible. I'm sure most of the things that we know are tainted. None of us were alive when these ancient text were written. It's just man's interpretation. We have to have faith in these texts. And I think we do. Deep down. That I think like with any holiday or celebration, there are a controversies, they are inconsistencies with the history, there's misinterpretations. Hell, eat the meat and throw away the bones!!! I am a Christian. But I love me some Christmas. Eggnog. Reindeer. Secular Christmas music. Presence, oh my, presence. Holiday feast. And even Santa. I know what the Bible says. And I believe it. And personally, the way I see Christmas in particular. The magi gave gifts to baby Jesus. So, I can give gifts to my friends. Baby Jesus was actually our gift to the world for our salvation. There we go. More gifts. I think giftgiving is OK. And there is some history with the original Santa Claus. No, it's not in the Bible but According to folklore, again, man's interpretation, on some level he was a real person. A good fellow. It makes me think of Jesus being represented as the light of the world. There you go. Christmas lights. I know I know. When you dig really deep. There's a whole bunch of stuff that will make you say wow and scratch your head. But I think as long as people mean well. I don't worship Santa and I don't know anyone who does. But I think that Christmas and a lot of holidays are just social constructs that we've all come to know And we participate in them, just because. Just like Thanksgiving with all the controversy behind that holiday.
