My first iPhone was the 5S in 2015. To answer your use question, I learned the gestures in basic navigation pretty fast, probably within a month or so, including the rotor. But to answer if I actually understood how it all functioned and the massive library of settings and configurations, no, that took me multiple years when time allowed for me to dig into all that. And then of course, the continuation of learning all the new changes that come into affect every freaking year lol.
