Just for clarification, a pedophile is someone who finds and has attraction and interactions with a prepubescent child. A 15 or 16 year-old girl does not fit into the prepubescent category. So while this guy may certainly be a bit creepy, and perhaps even a sex offender depending on the location and legal regulations, he’s not a pedophile.

Clinically speaking, what you say is true; the DSM V and ICD-11 call this : Ephebophilia; but I doubt very many people have heard of that designation. Legally though, the issue is whether the person is a minor; the subclassifications will not prevent an offender from going to jail and/or being permanently branded with a sex offender status.

@Doug. agreed. My comment is about the use of pedophile as an umbrella term when sex offender is the proper designation. And yes, I know that is somewhat of a semantic argument. But pedophile, for me, strikes a very specific image of deviance and harm, while sex offender more accurately describes the range of offenses. That is unless of course, you ar someone that sees no difference between a 25 year-old becoming involved with a 15 or 16 year-old, and that same 25-year-old targeting a six or seven-year-old.
