Hey Harmony finder, thank you for your comment. On your issue of positive reinforcement, it involves the use of clicker training. You also use treats to reward your dog when they do a good behavior instead of using corrections and praise. I honestly hated giving my dog a leash. Correction, however, it was necessary, so that they weren’t doing inappropriate things while and harness.

It’s really hard, especially when you can’t find a school that trains dogs for people who are allergic to dogs that shed. In point, I can’t find any other guide dog schools that train standard poodles. There are maybe one or two other schools, but they are out of my radius for driving or busing. I would have to fly.

The new year I used to have a Guide dog, from pilot dogs up in Columbus, and I can tell you that some guide dog schools trained their dogs way too softly. It used to be that pilot dogs would accept just anybody for a guy, including people who did not know how to cross the street. Now, they ramped up their admissions process, and they make everyone do videos now. They’re copying off of guiding eyes, leader, dogs for the blind, and other schools that are similar. I’m not familiar with what the UK‘s guide dog schools are like, I’m just speaking from experience, because I had a dog from pilot dogs, and I felt that he was way too young when he was issued to me. I got him at 17 months old, and he was not exposed to bowling alley nor was he exposed to those silvery balloons that you see at parties.
