I thought the same thing you did, Harmony, however, I have come across some people who went through electro shock therapy, and they they really promote the positive benefits of the treatment you know, including lowering depression you know, causing people to be more alert, more aware of their surroundings, this is what I heard from someone who endured it. I have not, and pray I never will have to.
