This woman had $850,000 that she had saved up for her retirement. So to get the rest of the 1 million, she took out an equity loan against her home.

The most heartbreaking story was one that I actually had to cover and talked to the individual who was the victim. She had been an accountant for 50 years. She received a phone call one day from a person wanting to be her friend. As the friendship grew he told her that he had a family inheritance and the money was tied up in an offshore account. He had inherited $300 million but he needed $1 million in order to have the funds released. If she would be kind enough to give him the $1 million needed to release the funds, he would give her 30 million once he got the money. And this highly intelligent woman who was a retired accountant emptied her whole entire life savings. That was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do was talk to this woman because it was absolutely sad. This person was so good at convincing her that he was her friend and that he was going to take care of her and she thought that she was making a sound investment. It is absolutely frightening and terrifying that someone can actually get into someone's head and get them to do something like that.

That is definitely a good principle to live by in these times when it comes to if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Be very leery of the messages that have broken English or lots of grammar or punctuation errors. That kind of stuff can usually be a red flag that it's a possible scam. These scammers are definitely getting very good with their game and they're on top of it.

Stay as far away as you can from those scams that happen on the telegram app where they offer to pay you to watch YouTube videos and various things like that. I have seen people lose their shirts with that kind of stuff because they want you to pay into it to level up, and you do make pretty decent money for the first couple of months. But then they get you.
