Yes, they're doing something a little different now with these thunderstorm warnings. It used to just be that intermittent tone that would play and then it would flash up on your screen. This last time we had a warning it was just really loud series of tone things which I can't really describe because I only heard it one time. so you now get the warnings along with the eminent threat which are actually two different alerts. But that one will scare the holy piss out of you.
You might be able to turn off the eminent alerts and leave the other ones on and still get the warnings with the old-school tones that were used to.

I had the holy hell scared out of me one day. I went out to the transmitter building with one of the engineers who needed to do something out there and invited me to ride along with him. I didn't know it at the time but he had me stand right by the generator. Then he walked to the other side of the room and tested the generator. Just imagine a big generator that's capable of keeping a 50,000 W AM radio station on the air during a power outage and how loud and dramatic something like that might be when it kicks in.
