If you attended a blind school, what weird/gross/perverted stuff did you witness?

At NFB convention me and my friend wanted to get frisky more than we (or I, really, since I was the instigator) wanted to listen to our friend so we made out, explored with hands, all while he was going on about the differences between JAWS and Window-Eyes or whatever. I'd figure out another buzzword and that'd buy us a minute of perversion. Sorry, dude. Heh heh.

I have a question for James and others who have a similar story to his, because his is not the first that I've heard of blind couples doing this sort of thing. And I have to ask, if there had been a fully sighted person in the room, would you still think it's appropriate to make out and feel somebody up while they are having a totally non-related conversation with you? Because I don't think you or the other people that engage in this would. Because like it's rude more than anything. Like if you wouldn't do it if a sided person were looking at you, why is it OK to do that in front of your blind friends? It actually kind of seems rude and goes a little beyond just being inappropriate.

I think that a lot of these things would happen anywhere that you have people who are not family all living together in close quarters. The same thing probably goes down on college campuses as well, but those are so big and everyone is adults and pretty much on their own so it doesn’t get talked about as much.

Yep, it is and was rude. I'm no longer nineteen and don't pull that stuff.

I agree to an extent, but there is a certain combination of blind folks without specific life skills, or lacking social graces, that means that the results can veer quite dramatically towards the gross or the unspeakable LOL

Hey James, thanks for adding that you were 19. While the behavior is still kind of questionable, it makes a lot more sense and I'm willing to give a 19-year-old horny kid a lot more grace than a 40 something father who should know better. I don't think I agree with you Gordon. College campuses and the other places you mention imply that they are a setting where casual/full-frontal making out might happen. But not in a hotel room at a convention where clearly at least one person was not aware what was going on. That is the scenario I am commenting on. The scenario he was presenting is one I've heard from other people and I would hate to think that you and other blind people have just normalize this kind of behavior. Because you know that there are things that you do in front of your blind friends, that you absolutely would not do if there was a sighted person around to see you doing said thing. Either because you Wouldn't want to be embarrassed, or because you respect them. And yeah, doing stuff in front of people because they can't see is just not a good look regardless of if you're blind or sighted. So like yeah, if you can't honestly say that you would be doing a certain thing thing if there was a sighted person ready to look over at you, then maybe just don't do it in front of your blind friends either. Sorry to be a post pooper Matt, I didn't go to a blind school, but I am a sociologist so I am finding all this interesting.
