Having trouble updating to iOS 27. It's as if it's forcing me to update to iOS 26.7 first.

Update is whack
Yes, you have to update 26 seven before the big update, a little annoying and I know
Loading reactions…
I can't eghen see iOS 26.7
Loading reactions…
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen that before. I wonder if iOS 26.7 came out at an earlier time and you never got that one? But Apple doesn't really work that way, android does but not Apple. I would go ahead and install 26.7 and then you should be eligible for 27. Or maybe you could try to close settings in the app switcher and redo it and see if it will let you install that without having to do 26.7.
Loading reactions…
That's strange. I've never had to update to the smaller update before updating to the big one before. I've always been able to just upgrade to the big one, but I guess I'll do that then.

I think that Apple started doing that a couple of years ago where when a completely new software version comes out, they give you the choice. Do you want to stay on the old software and update that or move to the new one. 26.7 is nothing but a security update for iOS 26. There's no new features in that one. But there are people who had rather get that then to make the jump to 27 so early.
Loading reactions…
Yeah. Oh I've closed it and reopened it like 3 times, but I'll go ahead and update to iOS 26.7 first and see if that works.

This is definitely interesting because I haven't heard anyone else who has experienced this, but you gave us the firsthand description of how it works. Lol you even clicked on the iOS 27 option yet it reverted back to iOS 26.7. That's the part that I have never seen before.

I had to get a small update for mine as well, even though I was already on the release candidate, and good grief it was slow. I guess that's what you get when you compete with the rest of the world. Everybody is hitting those Apple servers at the same exact time.
Loading reactions…
Yep. I didn't think if anybody would catch that. But yep, that's exactly what it did lol. Pretty strange, so we'll see.
Loading reactions…
I'm confused. Is iOS 26.7 necessary to install, or do you skip straight over to 27? I have 26.7 downloading, but I'm just curious. Yeah, everyone is hitting Apple's servers at the same time
Loading reactions…
No, that's just Apple giving you two different options to choose from just in case you're not quite ready to go to iOS 27 yet. You have a lot of businesses, schools and other large customers that absolutely depend on this technology working. So they give you that 26 option in case there might be some bugs that still need to be worked out in iOS 27.
Loading reactions…
I mean, I never updated to the smaller update once the big upgrade came out. So I wouldn't think they are necessary, but who knows. I always would just skip the small one and upgrade to the big one.
Loading reactions…
I thought the bug fixes are only in the small one not the big one
Loading reactions…
Yes, with Apple, you normally don't have to have the latest updated installed to move to a more recent update. On android you definitely have to do that, or at least I know that you used to have to. So when you would buy an android phone if it were a few updates behind you actually had to get an install each one of those to keep stepping up to the most recent update.
Loading reactions…
But I'm confusded. If their's bug fixes in 26.7 and I skip to 27 Will I still get the bug fixes that 26.7 has to fiu?

Fix sorry typo

Bugs along with fixes for bugs can come in any kind of an update. But yes, the smaller updates that you usually get in between versions contain bug fixes. after we have all had iOS 27 for a couple of weeks, I imagine they will push out iOS 27.0.1 to fix things. Then later they'll push out iOS 27.1 which will fix more things and introduce more features. So that's the smaller updates you're talking about which typically offer security patches and bug fixes.
Loading reactions…
Yes, the latest software update will have any bug fixes or security patches that might have come in earlier versions. So if iOS 26.7 fixes a specific vulnerability, you will be covered in iOS 27.

I was asking If the bigger updates bundle the bug fixes the smaller updates fix

OK, Allie is not alone here with this exact same issue. I'm seeing people post about it and other groups who are dealing with the same thing. I'm going to do some research and see what I can find, but my recommendation at the moment would be one of two things, go ahead and install iOS 26.7 and then try again to get iOS 27, or wait for a little while and see if Apple sort this out where you can just choose iOS 27 and install that right there. Something definitely went a little haywire because it's not supposed to be this way. You should be able to directly install iOS 27 and completely bypass iOS 26.7.
Loading reactions…
I was aable to bypass that. I installed iOS 26.7 because I wanted the bug fixes it had because I don't know If iOS 27 had those same fixes bundled in

OK I did dig — this is actually Apple's doing, not a bug on your friends' phones. You didn't hit it because you were on the iOS 27 beta — you're already past this bridge. For everyone still on iOS 26, Apple released *iOS 26.7 just 3-4 days before iOS 27* on purpose. It's listed as the final stable iOS 26 release. Two things happened right before it: 1. *iOS 26.6.2 fixed a cellular download bug* — Apple documented it: "This update fixes an issue that prevents downloading a software update over a cellular connection." 2. *iOS 26.6 added a Spotlight optimization to prepare for iOS 27* 7347 iOS 26.7 rolls both of those into what Apple calls the most stable place to sit if you want to stay on 26 — but also the launchpad for 27. What your friends are seeing — Software Update shows both 26.7 and 27, but tapping 27 kicks them back to 26.7 — is what happens when they are still on 26.6 or earlier. Apple is forcing them to install the bridge update first to fix that download bug. *What to tell them:* 1. Install *iOS 26.7 first*. It's small, about 500MB. Settings > General > Software Update — pick the 26.7 banner at the bottom, not the 27 banner at the top. 2. Make sure they're on *Wi-Fi and plugged in* — Apple still requires Wi-Fi for big releases, even after the cellular fix. 3. After 26.7 finishes and reboots, go back to Software Update — iOS 27 should then download cleanly without bouncing back. 7347 They don't need to stay on 26.7 long, just install it then immediately do 27. If they were planning to wait a few weeks on 26 anyway, then 26.7 is actually the good one to sit on — it's likely the last big iOS 26 version before only security patches.

Okay, so updating to iOS 26.7 seemed to work. Now it's showing iOS 27 so that's good. Thank yall.

Im still waiting

I think the reason that this became an issue this time around is because a lot of people didn't bother to update to iOS 26.7 because they knew iOS 27 was about to come out. But Apple needed that download bug to be fixed before they started moving people to iOS 27 so that you wouldn't run into any issues trying to get the update.

I have successfully updated to iOS 27. I also tried the image recognition thing. It's pretty cool.

I also notice that notification sounds and certain haptic sounds are super loud lol

Be sure to do a four finger triple tap or however, you get into live recognition on your phone and go play around with those goodies in there. You can turn on scene detection text detection point and speak if you have a pro model with LiDAR pointed speak is supposed to work a lot better. I'll get my 18 Pro on Friday so I will have LiDAR for the very first time and get to play around with that.

Go into settings, sounds and haptics and you'll see separate volume controls for everything now. You can choose to have the volume match the ringer volume or you can adjust each one independently. This is something new in iOS 27.
Loading reactions…
Oh okay. Yeah I'm thinking about getting the 18 pro max. I have a 16 plus, so I probably won't have many features for the live thing, but I'll give it a try.
Loading reactions…
But they text detection is bad ass because you don't have to go to Be My Eyes or Seeing AI. You can just quickly turn it on if you're trying to identify a TV dinner, read directions on something, read your mail or anything else. And the cool thing about live recognition is that part of it happens on your device so if you're reading something from a doctor or something like that, it's on your device. When you go into live recognition, you'll see toggles for whatever you wanna turn on and turn off. Then when you're done with it, you just simply exit live recognition and you're done. Magnifier can also be useful because live recognition and Magnifier share some things, but they're also a little different in the way that they give descriptions. Most of the time live recognition will be all that you need, but if you have lighter and you want door detection and different things like that, I think that that will be found in Magnifier. So if you're staying in a hotel and they tell you that your room is number 214 it is on the third floor, you would use that door detection and magnifier to get you right to that door.

You're still going to get a lot of goodies with your 16 Pro, but yes, the 18 Pro unlocks even more. But you're still gonna have a lot of reasons to say wow with your 16. But it really is worth it to get the 18 Pro especially if you can get a good deal for your carrier or something like that because it does unlock some amazing things.

I’m downloading it now

Yeah I wonder if you can copy the description when you do the image description? Or is that what the ask about description thing is for or whatever it's called? I haven't tried the ask about description. I've only tried just describing images

Yes, do your copy gesture while it's speaking. I triple tap with three fingers to copy the clipboard.

Thank you. I actually figured that out a few minutes ago. Cool deal.
