How many times did you have to replace the battery in your old 6S to get 11 years of usage out of it? Yes, the 6S was a very tough phone. But now you have built-in stereo speakers, the ability to record in stereo if you want to, and all kinds of other things.

Yes, you definitely got everything out of that 6S plus a lot more. That is very impressive that you never changed the battery and you get that many years out of it. But it was also time for you to upgrade. You have a lot of security updates and all kinds of better things now with your newer phone. So here goes to the start of another 11 years with your iPhone 17. That is awesome to hear stories like this.

I had a 6S and then it died after a year because I took it into the sauna

Yes, taking your iPhone into a sauna will definitely do it in pretty quickly because the battery is going to hate that kind of heat. And I don't think those older phones had all of the built-in protection mechanisms to shut them down if they overheat like they do now.

I did not manage to play the audio comments here, but Fae, you are the first person I've encountered that beats my record with phones. I bought an iPhone 5 in 2013, then replaced it with an iPhone x in late 2017, and still have the X now. But that's only nine years, not 11. I have never replaced a battery either; my biggest problem with the X is that apps are starting not to support it, but the battery is still fine. Well ok, fine enough for me. :-)

My summary of good Lithium Ion battery care: Keep it cool especially when charging, and keep charge between 25% and 75% or so when you can. If you won't be using the device for a long time, turn it off around 50% of battery. These numbers may vary depending on who you ask these days; that's just how I got to where I am with my phone.

For reference or whatever, my max capacity on this 2017 iPhone X is 71%.

It's probably about time to handle up on that, Doug, either with a battery replacement or a new phone.
