Well, you yourself mentioned that crazy snowstorm in 2016, so please be careful and be safe. Even if you don’t think that they are accurate in their forecasting and that they’re exaggerating, please be wise and take some precautions, just in case. God bless you.

So where do you live? This could be a pretty dangerous storm because it's going to cover a lot of area and temperatures will be below freezing in a lot of areas that aren't used to having temperatures like that. This kind of thing is pretty common for places like Detroit and Chicago, but definitely not here in Texas. When our roads start to ice up, they're going to stay that way for several days and it's not going to just melt. An inch of ice can weigh up to 3 to 400 pounds on a powerline. A lot of this depends on what you get. If you have warmer layers of air in the upper levels of the atmosphere then what you get could fall as freezing rain. It falls as rain, but freezes as ice on contact and that is very dangerous for the powerlines and for the roads. Sleet and snow aren't really a big deal because you can still drive on that stuff as long as there's not a layer of ice underneath it. But sleet or snow doesn't really pose a risk for the powerlines. And of course people who lose power could be without it for a while because with the conditions being icy it's not safe for the cruise to work.
