Imagine getting on a post that’s specifically put in a dating subcategory of an app for blind people, to tell them to go use Tinder. You know, Tinder. Famously the app that’s amazing for blind people, you know, the one where 99% of it is swiping through photographs?

Agree with you insane. I kind of take issue with Nick and others who scoff at trying to find companionship in this community, on this specific app. There's nothing wrong with putting it out there because somebody else might hear his post and be interested. What is wrong with that? How is this app or Facebook or any other place any better? The only difference is, the people here most of them probably don't have a lot to offer when it comes to dating such as a job, a place of their own, and money that they don't have to wait for from the government. So if you're saying that he shouldn't go here if he wants to find other people who have similar lived experiences that is rather confusing. Because the people on here are more likely to understand a 22 or 42 year-old who is still living at home And never held down the job because chances are that person is in a similar situation. Versus on other apps where there are people who are out in the world, who have been working for several years, and who might not wanna sit at home all day on the computer. So yeah, why are you chasing people away From Finding companionship in a community with other people who have similar experiences and won't be as judgmental about it? Just really. It's very annoying. The blind community is no different than any other community. It has the same drama. The same immature people as anywhere else. And it also has the same chances of people finding companionship. I mean it's happened. I know that several people have met and gotten married on apps like VORAIL and I know back in the day when the zone was around, a lot of people met and found relationships there. So stop this weird thing that you have against your own community. There are good and bad people everywhere.

Completely agree. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be specifically regarding someone’s pay, or job prospects, or literally whatever it may be. Sometimes people would rather partner up with someone who has their same disability, because people who have lived that similar experience make them more comfortable. Also, as someone who has used the ‘normal’ dating apps, they can bring out the worst in people. The people who are extremely ableist and wouldn’t even entertain the idea of someone with a disability being their partner, or on the opposite hand, you have those who would date someone who has a disability because they assume it makes them easier to manipulate, easier to control, easier to get what they want. I truly don’t understand what makes this platform particularly bad for trying to find friends or a partner or a friend group or anything like that. If this place wasn’t created to meet people, learn about people, become friends (or more) with people, then why exactly does it exist? Like, you guys know what Facebook was originally for, correct? It was originally for college kids. Like, literally, for its first couple years on the market, it was exclusively for college kids. Exactly what do you think those college kids were doing on there?

Nick, I've seen desperation, even on here. I did not "feel" desperation in this particular post. I sensed simple interest in finding someone this time, which is what prompted me to call the post "balanced." And this app is multi-purpose, but "relationships and dating" is a category that, as I understand things, does permit this sort of post.

thanks insane, you reemphasized what I said a bit much more concisely than I did. or what got buried. Basically, telling someone who is visually impaired not to find love in a community of other visually impaired people seems a bit silly. But I see it a lot and I don't get it. especially when people go on and on about how difficult they find navigating and interacting with the sided world and the people in said world. And yeah, it's no different than a deaf person seeking companionship in a deaf community because according to my friend, hearing people are exhausting! Lol anyway, good luck to the original poster whatever comes of this. and Nick, your reply was four minutes long. I usually stop listening to posts after two minutes. So if it's something you really want me to get, write it out my friend. ✍️☺️

least the guy has the balls to ask. I'll give him that. I guess the dating game has changed that much that you have to be so direct with it.

This is what I'm not getting Nick? What is he doing that's any different than what people are doing when they put profiles up on OkCupid? Plenty of fish? Is it weird because you can hear him? If people made audio posts instead of photo posts on Tinder for example would that be less weird and desperate to you? This is what I mean? Like I don't know what your argument is or how him putting himself out there is any different than anybody else putting themselves out on any of the dating apps you think are more superior than RAMBLIO etc. Lol

So now the goalposts have moved according to you. First, you were saying that ‘it’s weird for people to ask a question like that on an app like this, and they should use Tinder.’ Now it’s, ‘you shouldn’t directly look for a relationship (girlfriend or otherwise) at all, because it makes you look desperate.’ So which is it? Because what is Tinder, if not an app that lets you directly look for relationships? Idk man, but if I were someone interested in a relationship, I would much rather know the person I’m talking to is interested in a relationship as well instead of it being ambiguous. Desperate looking or otherwise, who cares? It’s no more or less embarrassing or desperate than going to the bar or going to some type of social gathering and hoping to find someone.

And I feel like this very much needs to be emphasized, I’ve said it already, but it should be repeated, people who are looking for a relationship, don’t necessarily care about job prospects or how much money you have. We, in general, but especially amongst the blind community, are some of the most socially isolated people around, most of us want a relationship because of just that, it’s a relationship. A partnership. Another person to interact with, enjoy life’s moments with, whatever it may be. And this isn’t just in the blind community either, amongst all communities there has been a significant slow death in third spaces, as in, places that are not work or home where you might find a partner. Mostly due to financial reasons, people can’t afford to go to the movies, to go to dinner, to go to clubs, to go to bars. Even if they’re making decent money, they still can’t afford to do these things. That’s why over 40% of modern relationships are started online. There is absolutely nothing wrong or desperate about that.

Dude, the tag on the post is literally relationships and dating. In the categories of this app, one of them is relationships and dating. Exactly what did you think that was for? And again, as both I and Sufe have said, what exactly makes the relationships and dating category of this particular app any different from the other websites that exist? Like Facebook dating, or as you have said multiple times, Tinder. Literally the only difference, is that this one has voices and those ones have pictures. That’s the only difference. Nothing else, just that. You still have not given any of us a reason why this app is bad for that purpose. Does it make a relationship ‘lesser’ if its started via this type of app instead of, checks notes, Facebook? Which is owned by Meta? Also known as like the most privacy violating, intrusive, creepy company in the world? Literally, the only thing you’ve been able to say is that it makes someone look desperate, which sounds like your own insecurities talking to me. If someone actually found a happy relationship on an app like this, I doubt they’re going to break up, simply because it began on an app like this. And anyone who would is shallow and narrow- minded and probably not worth having a relationship with anyway.

Also, literally the CEO of Tinder has said in the past that the app isn’t actually meant for dating, all it’s meant for is engagement farming. Literally, the app is designed just to keep you swiping as long as possible, which is why there are like hundreds of articles and videos with experiments in them where someone swipes for an hour straight or whatever and never finds a single match.

One last thing I want to say. When we think about dating and how people meet each other, it makes sense that blind people who are usually on audio first social media apps more than usual should find each other on here because out in the world people find each other at work, or while visiting their favorite coffee shop. So I guess what I'm trying to say, if the dating apps aren't working, think about Trying to meet people out in the real world. Make yourself go out to places if you don't have a regular place of social interaction to go to on the daily like school/university or a job. I have found much more success when I've accidentally struck up a conversation with someone at a Coffee shop, a bookstore, heck even the once at a Renaissance fair. So yeah guys, if the electronic scene isn't doing it for you, maybe that's the universe telling you that you might find better success if you go out of your house. Out of your comfort zone. and to chantel, in case there are any idiots who come in here and wanna get on you about your totally OK convention hook up, don't mind them. People meet on Facebook talk about meeting at CSun or some other conference type deal, for example and hook up, and never see each other again. Cited, blind, etc. people do exactly what she did all the time and it's not a big deal. So I'm glad you had a good time at the ACB. Maybe if more people had gone to a real life social interaction like that, they would've found a partner as well. Even if it was just for the week. ❤️🔥

Completely agree. And just as you predicted, the comments have now devolved into personal attacks.

Completely agree with everything you said here, I truly do not understand the personal attacks. I also completely understand if this isn’t really someone’s thing. But I also just think people need to be a little bit more accommodating of this kind of stuff, it’s going to happen. It’s more likely that two people will get together from an app like this, then they are just going to randomly bump into their forever person walking down the street or whatever. Also while I understand that coincidences and miracles happen, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with someone specifically seeking out a relationship. The vast majority of relationships didn’t start because ‘it just happened’, that’s kind of a fantasy that’s been sold by decades of movies and TV shows. Like I pointed out earlier, the statistics show that significantly more than 40% of relationships these days began online, and the number is likely much higher. Unless you happen to live in the nicest community ever, or on a college campus or something like that, it’s very, very, very statistically unlikely you are going to meet your significant other picking up your coffee from Starbucks or whatever.

The explanation is very simple, the people who get all up in arms about whatever happens at these conventions or on these chat rooms or whatever, are jealous. And insecure. It is literally that simple. They are upset that someone who attended an event that they consider ‘beneath them’ is getting some action, and they can’t. And it doesn’t just have to do with getting action. It has to do with doing well in life in any aspects. It’s a trope for a reason, if someone has friends when they are down on their luck and then they start becoming successful in any sort of way, relationship wise, money wise, no matter what, a lot of those friends will not stick around. It’s a tale as old as time
